GENERAL RULES AND CONDITIONS

1. The Belvoir Team Chase is recognised by the BHS/MFHA Standing Committee and the first two teams in Class 2 will qualify for the National Championships 2006. Should either of the first two teams have already qualified, then the qualification will be handed down to the next highest team(s) in the first six. Class 1 is a qualifying class for the Total Recall Accumulator, the rules for which will be posted in the Secretary’s Tent.

2.a Teams consist of 3 or 4 horses, the time of the 3rd horse past the post to count. The time of the 4th horse will be taken in case one of the first three has been eliminated for failing to comply with the rules.

2.b The Optimum Times for the Class 1 Special Prize and for Class 3 will be in sealed envelopes to be opened by the Chief Scorer at the end of the class. The times are based on the speed of a novice hunter not yet fully fit.

3.
HORSES a. All horses and ponies must be five years old or over (four and over for Class 3)
b. Horses or ponies must be 14.2hh or over in Classes 1 & 2, 12.2hh or over in Class 3.

4.
RIDERS a. AGES: on 2/10/05, riders in Classes 1 & 2 must be 16 or over, in Class 3 12 or over, or 10 or over if accompanied by a rider aged 18 or over.
b. DRESS: Riders must wear a jockey skull in Classes 1 & 2 and a jockey skull or. BHS approved hard hat with harness secured in Class 3. Back protectors and hunting ties are strongly recommended.
c. Anyone mounted anywhere at this event must wear a hard hat.
d. Every rider is urged to arrange Personal Accident Insurance.
e. All riders should be members of the Countryside Alliance, giving them Third Party Insurance cover for £5m.

5. No team may receive more than one Special Prize in each class. If a team wins two prizes, the Committee shall have discretion to allocate the prizes so that each can be received by different teams.

6. Each team will be numbered and each rider will wear a different colour. Numbers will be issued on declaration at the Secretary’s Office on payment of a deposit of £10. Declaration must be made at least 45 minutes before the starting time.

7. Each team must send S.A.E. with entries for their start time, and must report to the Collecting Ring Steward 10 minutes before that time. Start times may be brought forward if announced on the public address system and teams must be ready to start early. Late teams MAY be allowed to start at the end of the class with a 30 second time penalty.

8. All fences will be marked with a WHITE flag on the LEFT and a RED flag on the RIGHT and must be jumped between the flags. NOVICE fences will be marked with a YELLOW number board; OPEN fences with BLUE; FUN fences with RED.

9. TIMING FENCES: (where appropriate). The second of these pairs of fences must not be jumped until 3 team members have jumped the first. The penalty for infringement is 30 seconds added to the team time. A horse has jumped a fence when the fore legs have touched the ground on the landing side. The decision of the fence judge is final.

10. Refusals and falls are penalised only by time, but 3 refusals at any one fence or a total of 5 on the course by one horse eliminates that horse, which must immediately leave the course at a walk. A competitor in the path of an oncoming team may be ordered by a jump judge or steward to retire, as may a horse in obvious distress.

11. In the event of a tie, the time of the 4th horse counts. (A team of 4 finishers beats one of 3 finishers). If there is still a tie, money prizes will be divided. In the case of Special Prizes, the toss of a coin will decide.

12. CANCELLATION. In the event of cancellation a recorded message will be left on 01664 565259 Entry fees less 25% will be refunded to those who apply with SAE. (There will be no postponement.)

13. The organisers reserve the right to:-
(a) Withhold any prize if insufficient entries.
(b) Alter the advertised times and order of classes.
(c) Modify the course.
(d) Refuse any entry.

14. Neither the Organisers, nor the BHS/MFHA Standing Committee, nor any agent employee or representative of these bodies accepts any liability for any accident loss, damage, injury or illness to any horse, rider, spectator, vehicle, property, land or any other person whether caused by the negligence, breach of contract or in any other way whatsoever.

15. Only the owner or rider of a competing horse may lodge an objection which must be accompanied by a deposit of £20, in writing to the Secretary within ten minutes of the results of the class being announced. The deposit will be forfeited if the objection is overruled.
