THE RULES
These Rules must be read in conjunction with the MFHA Rules which are available from Teamchasing.co.uk

Late Entries
1. Entries for all classes, except the Open, close on Saturday 4th October 2008. Late entries will only be accepted at the discretion of the Secretary and will be subject to an additional fee of £10 per individual or £40 per team. Entries for the Open class will be accepted until 6.00pm on Monday 6th October 2008.

Running of the event
2. The decision of the judges is final. Riders and owners of horses must obey any direction given by an Official.
3. In the case of any Rule affecting riders or their horses, the rider shall be held responsible.
4. Competitors who do not present themselves to the Starter at their given time (where allocated) will only be allowed to go at a time decided by the Starter.
5. Competitors must jump the fences in numerical order and leave all red flags on the right and white flags on the left. Any horse taking the wrong course will be eliminated. No rider may exchange horses once a team has started. No horse may start more than once in any team class.
6. In the team event, the number of refusals shall not exceed three at any one fence, or five on the course per horse, when the competitor is eliminated and must leave the course at once. A team will be disqualified for an abuse of these rules by any individual member.
7. Team classes are affiliated to the MFHA. Teams must consist of 3 or 4 horses, of which 3 must complete the course. The time of the 3rd horse through the finish will be the time of the team. The bogey time (Class 3) will be set at a fair hunting pace/approx 450m/min. For Class 4, riders must be aged at least 16 years old and horses must be at least 14.2hh (148cm). Horses must be at least 5 years old in team classes.

Safety/Protection
8. All competitors must wear crash helmets to current recognised British Safety Standards. All competitors in team events must also wear a body protector to current approved British Safety Standards. All those mounted at an event (including grooms and helpers) must wear a hard hat when mounted. Any rider who sustains concussion shall under no circumstances compete again for at least the remainder of that day.

Personal Accident Insurance
9. For team classes, it is a requirement that all participants carry Third Party insurance for not less than £5m. It is also strongly recommended that all participants have Personal Accident Insurance. Third Party Insurance is provided by membership of the Countryside Alliance. It may also come with some horse insurance and house insurance cover, or with membership of other organizations such as BHS, British Eventing, BSJA, etc but this should be checked.

Horse welfare
10. The whip should only be used for good reason, not excessively, in the right place and at the appropriate time. Spurs must not be used to reprimand a horse and a bit should never be used to abuse or reprimand a horse. Any act or series of actions, which in the opinion of the Stewards constitutes abuse of a horse, shall be considered to be a breach of Rules.
11. If at any time before or during the competition a horse appears injured, sick or exhausted, it may be eliminated on the authority of the Veterinary Surgeon or mounted Stewards on the course. Competitors must be prepared to accept the decision of the Veterinary Surgeon to put a horse down.

Organisers’ right
12. The Organisers reserve the right to:
    1. Cancel or postpone the event for any reason;
    2. Withhold all or any prize money if there are insufficient entries;
    3. Alter the advertised times;
    4. Alter the course or leave out any obstacle for reasons of safety;
    5. Transfer competitors between classes;
    6. Refuse any entry;
    7. Eliminate any competitor to be adjudged not to be adhering to the Rules.

Disclaimer of Liability
13. Save for death or personal injury caused by the negligence of Organisers for which they are legally responsible, neither the Organisers of any event to which these Rules apply, nor any representative of these bodies accepts any liability for any accident, loss, damage, injury or illness to horses, owners, riders, spectators, land, vehicles, contents or accessories or any other person whatever, whether caused by their negligence or in any other way.
14. All dogs must be kept on a lead at all times.

Hunt Team Chase
14. No team in the Hunt Team Chase may consist of more than two riders who have previously been places (1st-6th) in an Open Team Event in the previous twelve months.
15. Each Hunt may enter as many teams as it wishes. In the event of over-subscription, entries will be limited and it may be necessary to restrict the number of teams per Hunt.
16. Each team must have confirmation from a Master of their Hunt that EVERY member of the team is a subscriber to, or Hunt Servant of, the Hunt they are representing and has hunted on at least four occasions with that hunt during the current season, in order to make their entry valid (the signature of the Master is required on the entry form). The organisers reserve the right to seek further clarification if required. Late substitutions will be allowed, but the additional Master’s Certificate in respect of any late substitute must be lodged with the Secretary in advance of the competition.
17. All teams will be required to wear either standard Hunt dress or a black, blue or red jersey to match normal hunting attire. Body protectors may be warn either under or over Hunt Dress or Black/Blue/Red Jerseys.
