THE COMPETITION AND COURSE
The competition will comprise approximately 20 fixed and natural obstacles, including hedges and ditches. All the fences will be inviting and built to encourage horses and riders to ride across country more safely at speed than in a hunter trial.
There must be a minimum of three and maximum of four competitors per team.
Each obstacle must be jumped by at least three (the same three) members of the team but they do not have to be jumped together (Indian file is the best option). There will be no penalties for refusals, but 3 refususals at any one fence or 5 around the course by any one horse will result in that horse being eliminated. There will be no penalties for rider falls, however more than one rider fall or one horse fall on the course will also result in that horse being eliminated. Riders must not persist at any fence after elimination. The course is timed from start to finish. The time will be taken from the first horse starting to the third horse finishing. In the ‘pen’ the third horse must have entered the ‘pen’ before the first horse leaves it. Any team failing to comply will incur a 30-second time penalty. The judges and officials will stop any team or individual from continuing if they deem that health and safety is or is about to be compromised.
