Boring Gorings

The team captain is boring old George Goring. George rode in the very first team chase at Hickstead in 1974 and in every Hickstead event thereafter. He formed the Boring Goring team in 1976 which makes the Boring Gorings the oldest team on the circuit.

The original team was George Goring, Richard Goring, Bob Baskerville and Diana Von Kaltenbourne (now Clarke).

Fred French 37 has been riding with George since he was 16 and has led the team on 'three seasons' for at least the last 12 years. Fred, George, John Perry and Mike Hammond are the present 'A' team. Richard having been sacked several times from the 'A' team now runs the boring goring 'B' team called the 'Boring also Rans' along with Fiona Field, Cynthia Haydon and Fred or John from the 'A' team.

George and Richard are twins now 63 years old, they still ride every week in open classes with one or other of the Boring Goring teams. They intend carrying on being nuisances into their 80s if Fred will put up with them.

The Goring Hotel, London, SW1W 0JW, Telephone 0207 396 9000, has always sponsored the Boring Gorings and has been the principal sponsor for the U.K. Team Chase Championships for the last 9 years.

The present Boring Gorings are always in the frame but don't often win they’re short on discipline and style and renowned for fielding the odd loose cannon with horrific consequences all of which is swept aside by their enthusiasm.

George has all too often been censored for his odd phrase of encouragement from second place behind Fred which accidentally comes loud and clear over the intercom 'go like f***ing s**t' is his absolute favourite.

The Boring Gorings have never missed a championship since the sport started; they were 2nd last year when the U.K. championships were held on the Worcestershire course.
