It's the Patey Hats Legover Ladies and the answers to your questions are yes, yes, yes and definitely.
Although on the right horse, you're pretty secure going cross country side saddle and because you're sat on your - posterior - can hold a hard puller without fighting.
I've done a couple of events side saddle back in the mists of time and thoroughly enjoyed them, although thankfully I've never had a fast enough horse to be invited to join the PHLL! thumbup

They are the Legover Ladies led by Babbete Cole & sponsored by Patey Hats. The girls competed in and where placed at the Team Chase Nationals as well as other events and are an excellent advertisment for Side Saddle riding. thumbup
Babbete has been leading a side saddle team for quite a few years now though they used to be sponsored by her own childrens books company.
We are still aspiring to do some aside but have not yet got enough fools to go with us astride on a regular basis. Am planning on getting revenge on Emma1 for getting me pissed so I would agree to do Bramham open. Aim to get her pissed enough to do a Novice aside with me this Spring. (After all she has promised to come out aside on Boxing Day this year - !!) B)
Any other volunteers out there ? Lots of Gin provided FOC for willing volunteers !! :P

PS
Emma1 is after hiring or buying a Medium / Med/Narrow Side Saddle.
A Med would probably be best pref Doe Skin Seat - max 17" (pref 16.5") (& not one of these cheap forign imports) if anyone knows any around. But no silly prices please - as all spare money has been spent on Gin - ready for the hunting season !
To be used mainly for hunting etc ..
Also after a cheep Topper 5-5.5" hight - Sizes from 7&1/8 - 7&1/2 (as I need a cheep one for hunting too).
Definition of Cheep - looks like a silk one but one we wont mind hitting on trees. thumbup

Worth looking for saddle on ebay if the seller's close enough to have a squint at the saddle before bidding - some good stuff coming up recently, but can make a big price.
Ditto toppers.
After mum stumped up lots of dosh to have my topper refurbed at Patey's I'm only allowed to get it out of the box for showing. Bit too much of a liability for hunting in our irritatingly wooded country!
Thanks for invite but seem to have broken cobby out autumn hunting on Sat (sob!) - careless, i know, and new horse too poncy for outdoors stuff!

Ouch - hope Cobby will be back up and running soon - or maybe team chasing could be the making (or breaking) of your new one ! :o
PS Have same problem with my best Topper so need a cheep one.
Ta for the suggestion - been watching ebay but def need to see them first as too many parts in a side saddle that can be broken & very expensive to repair. Plus they all seem to be 17.5" plus seats. Guess theyll be like buses and a few will come along at once ! :P
